How To Set-Up Your Marathon Training Calendar
This is part of a series of posts I’m doing focused on marathon training. To get “The .2” posts in your inbox, sign-up here!
Welcome to the fall season of “The .2” — training advice for every step of your marathon!
This season will feature a series of posts grouped around specific themes. The first theme is “fundamentals” and I’m starting with a look at the big picture of marathon training.
Use the charts below to start to set out your training calendar: how long it needs to be, how frequently to include speed work, when to schedule tune-up races, and how many big-time long runs you should have in your plan.
These are guidelines that I believe are reasonable, but of course there will be exceptions and special cases. The best way to think about them is as a general, flexible framework to start planning from.
I’d love to hear your feedback, comments, and suggestions — leave a comment and let me know what you think!
